Paradise Beach Improvement Association Minutes for the May 14, 2013 meeting Attendees: John Breen (president) Peggy Seaman (treasurer) Susan Brenton (vice president) Bob Seaman Michael and Bonnie Dausch Duane Kaeding Jody Breen Meeting was called to order at 7:02 pm by John Breen. Treasurers Report: Peggy read the treasury report, and the balance as of 5/14/2013 was $4354.76. Review of Minutes: John reviewed the minutes from the last meeting. May Day at the Beach: The May Day at the Beach was conducted by John and Jody Breen. The Community property needed some extra attention in the far corner which had become rather overgrown. John cleared this out and left some of the bigger branches in the middle of the lot where a collection of fallen branches had been left from previous storms. This area will need to be cleaned out to remove the unsightly collection. Old Business: There was a discussion about the corner of Paradise Beach and Bayside Beach Roads. John Mason was in discussion with members of the County Government to put rocks along the side of the road. Putting lights at the intersection appear to be a lost cause. New Business Duane Kaeding reported on an incident at his house where one wheel from his 1997 Ford Explorer was stolen in broad daylight. There was not much the Police could do except take a report, and Duane was quite perturbed. This is something that we all should take to heart because it could happen to you. If you see something that looks like it is a crime in progress, call the police and report it. Do not try to take matters into your own hands. Mosquito Spraying John was contacted by the Maryland Department of Agriculture about the Mosquito Spraying program. John filled out the application, and is awaiting a response from the county so that he may inform the members of the community when the spraying will take place. Maryland Port Authority Visit Regina Rochez, a representative from the Maryland Port Administration, attended the meeting to inform the community about the Dredge Management Program that is being conducted by the state in the Patapsco River and the Chesapeake Bay. She had a pile of handouts that explained the program, and how it is affecting the Cox Creek Placement Site and the Swan Creek Conservation Area. If you are interested, you may find information about these programs at their website: http://www.mpasafepassage.org/. Bonnie served cookies and refreshments to all that attended. One of the programs that I found interesting was that the Cox Creek Site has bird watching events upon occasion. I attended one of these on May 18th, and we spotted 74 different species of birds including Baltimore Orioles, Orchard Orioles, Bald Headed Eagles, Osprey, and a bunch of shorebirds. It is quite a bird sanctuary Meeting was adjourned at 7:28 pm. NEXT MEETING: Tuesday June 11th at 7:00pm Location: Kurtz Beach!!
